Please examine the provided documents carefully to ensure compliance and get as much out of our competition as possible! **Age categories have been updated as follows: Prodigy (13 & under), Artiste (14-18), Virtuoso (19-29)** The application submission period for the 23rd Young Artists Solo Competition will open in this location on **Tuesday September 1st, 2026**. Early bird applications with a reduced application fee will be accepted until Friday October 9th, and the final application due date is Friday October 16th, 2026 at 11:59pm PST. This is the 22nd year that the Southern California Philharmonic has conducted the Young Artists Solo Competition. More than 80 musicians competed for a chance to perform with the SoCalPhil in the 2025-2026 season as an SCP Young Artist. Thank you to all the students, teachers and parents who participated in the competition this season. We have some amazing talent in our community, and SoCalPhil is grateful to have the opportunity to work with these young musicians and be part of their musical journey. Thank you also to the Watson Piano Studio in Fullerton for hosting the auditions, and to the judges and greeters who made the process run smoothly! Each of the first-place winners will perform with SoCalPhil in one of three 2026 concerts: instrumental winners on March 6th and 7th, vocal winners on April 17th and 18th, and pianist winners on May 29th and 30th. SoCalPhil is thrilled to once again have the Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts sponsoring this important musical event and supporting the scholarships for our young artists. Scholarships totaling in excess of $4000 are awarded to these 2025-26 competition winners at the Saturday performance of each concert series. All scholarships are made possible through our partnership with TACFA, as well as donations from our generous patrons and SCP musicians, and audition fees. Movements from Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto, Ravel's Tzigane, and Crusell's Clarinet Concerto, plus Resphigi's Pines of Rome The first in our showcase series featuring winners of the SoCalPhil Young Artists Solo Competition in the Instrumental Category, performing movements from Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto, Ravel's Tzigane, and Crusell's Clarinet Concerto, plus Respighi's Pines of Rome. The second in our showcase series featuring winners of the SoCalPhil Young Artists Solo Competition in the Vocal Category, performing selected vocal pieces composed by Mozart, Offenbach, Paisiello, Quilter, Schubert, and Puccini, plus Schubert's Symphony No. 9. The third in our showcase series featuring winners of the SoCalPhil Young Artists Solo Competition in the Piano Category, performing movements from Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 1, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, and Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, plus Stravinsky's Firebird. *We strive to ensure access to the arts. If you would like to further coordinate accessibility measures, we ask that you please email* *info@socalphil.org* *at least 10 days in advance of the concert date that you wish to attend.* Twenty plus years ago, a handful of musicians in the Yorba Linda area got together and formed the Yorba Linda Orchestra Association (YLOA). Within the first year of existence, the Young Artists Solo Competition was held, and the winners of that competition performed their solo with the orchestra. In the blink of an eye, ten years passed, and the orchestra began to diversify, attracting new musical talent from all over southern California. This prompted a change in name to the Southern California Philharmonic, and we’ve been on the move since. The Young Artists Solo Competition continues to be a mainstay for the orchestra, attracting many talented students, ranging from 5 to 23 years of age, with the winners earning a chance to perform with the orchestra in the three spring concerts. Through donations and fundraising events, these winners are also awarded a modest scholarship to help them continue their studies. It is a privilege to perform with these talented musicians, becoming a part of their musical journey. Stay up to Date with all the events and goings ons at the Southern California Philharmonic. The approximately 60 regular members of the Southern California Philharmonic bring their unique musical talents to a wide range of instruments and compositions. 11 years ago, when I became a SoCalPhil Young Artist, I never could have imagined that someday I would be named our orchestra’s next Board President. In a testament to how our Young Artist Program uplifts and encourages the professional development of the next generation, the role models to whom I looked up as a 17-year-old are today my friends and colleagues. **2025-26 Young Artist Competition Winners Announced!** The Southern California Philharmonic is pleased to announce the 22nd Annual Young Artists Solo Competition winners. Applications opened on August 15th and closed on September 30th, 2025. Winners will be performing with the SoCalPhil in three concert series during Spring 2026. The Southern California Philharmonic is proud to be supported by a dedicated community of corporate and individual sponsors who share our passion for music, education, and the arts. Their generous contributions help us bring inspiring performances, outreach programs, and music education to audiences across the region. We are deeply grateful for their partnership and commitment to enriching the cultural life of Southern California. Our members come from all walks of life, united by a shared passion for music. By day, we come from all occupations; by night, we come together to create music for our community. Our ensemble spans generations, with students as young as 13 performing alongside lifelong musicians in their 90s. Together, we embrace all that enriches our orchestra and allows us to share the joy of music.  The mission of the Southern California Philharmonic is to promote a culturally rich and connected community by staging live performances of orchestral masterworks for the public and by advancing educational opportunities for future generations of musicians and leaders. The Southern California Philharmonic presents transformative symphonic performances and cultivates musical growth through education and outreach. We welcome musicians and audiences across Orange County and beyond, creating shared musical experiences that inspire, connect, and uplift. The story of the Southern California Philharmonic is one of passion, perseverance, and community. What began in 2003 as a small group of avocational musicians in Yorba Linda has grown into a vibrant symphony orchestra serving audiences across Orange County and beyond. Along the way, we’ve changed names, expanded our reach, and remained devoted to our guiding mission. Today, under the baton of Maestro Branden Muresan, SoCalPhil continues to inspire through live performance, youth mentorship, and a commitment to the cultural enrichment of our region. Inspired by this mission, the Southern California Philharmonic has: Brought live orchestral performances to thousands of patrons Advanced youth music education through its flagship Young Artist Program Created low- to no-cost opportunities for public engagement with the symphonic arts Staged 10 orchestral concerts—each offered with free admission or on a donate-what-you-can basis Welcomed an average of 150–300 patrons per concert cycle Awarded $4,200 in scholarships to the 21st annual cohort of our Young Artists Partnered with the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts, the Colburn Foundation, and other leading funders to present a special performance at the Nixon Presidential Library—performed to a standing-room-only audience As we prepare for future concert seasons, we’re expanding the reach of our outreach initiatives to serve even more members of our community. *Will you* [*join us*](/support) *in making symphonic music accessible to all of Southern California?* With your support, the SoCal Phil can continue its vision of preserving musical appreciation and engagement in our community by presenting some of the most talented and driven young artists, soloists and orchestra musicians. A Southern California native and recipient of numerous awards, musical director Branden Muresan leads the Southern California Philharmonic​ orchestra. The approximately 60 regular member of the Southern California Philharmonic bring their unique musical talents to a wide range of instruments and compositions. Our Board of Directors share their knowledge, experiences, and dedication to help guide the SoCal Phil’s vision of bringing the great orchestral works to the community. From seasoned professionals to passionate amateurs, our members bring a diverse range of experiences and a shared love of music to every performance. He began studying violin performance at age six, under the tutelage of Merillee Walker and Noumi Fischer. After earning his AA from Saddleback College, he went on to study at San Diego State University, where he was honored to be taken as a student by Igor and Vesna Gruppman, former students of Jascha Heifetz and David Oistrakh. At SDSU, he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance, and in 2000 he graduated with a Master in Music with a major in Instrumental and Orchestral Conducting, under the instruction of Dr. Donald Barra. Branden began performing violin professionally at age 16 and has since become a well-known orchestral violinist from Baja California to Los Angeles. His most notable performances have been with the Irish Tenors, in Mexicali BC, at Luciano Pavarotti’s last professional concert, and most recently on tour with Il Divo. Currently, he is assistant conductor for the Long Beach Ballet Orchestra. Professor Muresan began teaching private violin at age 18, and many of those students have grown and pursued advanced music degrees at such prestigious colleges as Longy Conservatory of Music, CalArts, UCSD, USD, UCLB, & University of Utah. In a college setting, Professor Muresan began teaching at Grossmont College in 2001, University of San Diego in 2003, Mira Costa College in 2009, and has since been honored to be an adjunct professor at his Alma Mater Saddleback College, where he still currently teaches. As a conductor, Maestro Muresan began with founding and developing the East San Diego County Civic Youth Orchestra program in 2003, which is still running strong. After performing in several guest conducting spots, he was contacted to build and lead a new adult orchestra program in Poway, California, as well as the Four Seasons Youth Orchestra in Newport Beach. He also was interim conductor for the Saddleback College Orchestra during the 2011-2012 season. In 2009, Maestro Muresan was hired to conduct the Mira Costa Symphony Orchestra, and in 2012 he won the opportunity to conduct the Southern California Philharmonic Orchestra. These orchestras are thriving and growing under the direction and care of Maestro Muresan. There are approximately 60 regular members of the SCP. We have openings for a number of positions including string players and percussionists. Our Board of Directors share their knowledge and diverse business and musical experience to help guide the SoCal Phil’s vision of bringing the great orchestral works to the community. Join us in appreciating their mastery and thanking them for their partnership with our organization. Eiline has performed internationally as a cellist, making her solo debut at the age of 10 with the Southern California Philharmonic after winning the Young Artist Competition. Since then, Eiline has performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Zipper Concert Hall, Jordan Hall, New World Center, and Kaufman Music Center. Her musical journey has taken her to play in the United States, Switzerland, Germany, Liechtenstein, Canada, France, Slovenia, England, and Italy. At just 16, she has had the privilege of studying Beethoven’s complete five cello sonatas with Maestro Alfred Brendel. In 2020, Eiline was invited to participate in the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival’s Mass Cello Ensemble at Walt Disney Concert Hall. She gained further recognition in January 2023 when she appeared on NPR’s From The Top nationwide radio show. Demonstrating outstanding artistry and dedication, she was awarded the 2025 YoungArts Award Winner with Distinction, the highest honor from the National Foundation, and invited to the YoungArts Week in Miami. In 2025, invited as Artist-in-Residence for the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival, Eiline was recognized for artistic excellence and contribution to contemporary performance. Eiline’s exceptional talent has also earned her the top prizes from distinguished competitions. Recently, she received 2nd Prize in the 2025 Johansen International Competition, as well as the award for Best Performance of Commissioned Work. She has also won numerous other competitions, such as Burbank Philharmonic Henning-Fischer Young Artist Competition, Whittier Regional Symphony Young Artist Competition, Virtuoso & Belcanto Concerto Competition, Hill International Concerto Competition, Walgreens National Concerto Competition, WorldVision Music Contest, Gustav Mahler Prize Cello Competition, Edith Knox Performance Competition, and more. Eiline has appeared as a soloist with several symphonies, including the Southern California Philharmonic, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Bellflower Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim, and SNE Chamber Orchestra Bautzen. She has received scholarships from renowned institutions, including the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, National YoungArts, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Morningside Music Bridge, Virtuoso & Belcanto Festivl, and Orford Music Academy. Currently, Eiline is a Kohl Scholar studying under Clive Greensmith at the Colburn School. Eiline plays on a 2023 Mario Miralles cello, generously loaned by Richard W.
